Researchers at the Medical Research Council of The Gambia (MRCG) have maintained scientific collaborations with colleagues of the UCAD for several years, notably with Professor Souleymane Mboup’s team of Bacteriology Virology with the HIV and Tuberculosis programmes and that of Professor Oumar Gaye’s Parasitology with the Malaria and Helminthiases programmes.

This partnership was strengthened and in October 2016 a strategic alliance, the West Africa Global Health Alliance (WAGHA), was established, This Alliance brings together 3 institutions, namely the MRC of The Gambia, the Institute of Health Research, Epidemiological Surveillance and Training (IRESSEF), led by Professor Mboup and UCAD with the Department of Medical Parasitology and its Training and Research Centre of Keur Socé as coordinator of the activities. The Rector of UCAD, Professor Ibrahima Thioub, signed the tripartite agreement on behalf of UCAD, 6 months ago. The official launching ceremony of the WAGHA will take place on April 7, 2017, at the Board Room of the UCAD Faculty of Medicine, Pharmacy and Dentistry (FMPO).
